Part of our Third Trimester Guide
What Third-Trimester Symptoms Should I Never Wait Out?
A short list of third-trimester symptoms, including a severe headache, vision changes, sudden swelling, reduced fetal movement, bleeding, or fluid leaking, should prompt a same-day call to your provider. That’s true even if everything else about your pregnancy feels normal.
What Are the Warning Signs of Preeclampsia?
A severe or persistent headache that doesn’t ease with rest or hydration, vision changes, upper-right abdominal pain, or sudden swelling in your face and hands can signal preeclampsia.
This is a blood pressure condition that needs prompt evaluation (ACOG, Mayo Clinic, Preeclampsia Foundation).
When Should I Worry About My Baby’s Movement?
A distinct, sustained change from your baby’s usual movement pattern, not just one quiet afternoon, warrants a same-day call to your provider, who can talk you through monitoring next steps.
You know your baby’s normal pattern better than any app does.
What Other Symptoms Need a Same-Day Call?
Vaginal bleeding, fluid leaking (a gush or a trickle), a fever, or abdominal pain that doesn’t fade all warrant a same-day call to your provider, who would always rather hear from you and rule things out.
January is not an emergency service. If something feels urgent, call your provider or 911.
This isn't about worrying more. It's about knowing exactly which symptoms need a call, so you can let the rest go.
